Veneered furniture care & cleaning guide.

Your veneered furniture has a protective Polyurethane Lacquer finish (PU), which is applied in layers, building up a protective layer that is either a matt, semi matt or gloss finish (depending on finish specified). Water based liquid spill will initially sit on the surface whilst a cloth is sought to wipe off – water spills not wiped off immediately will mark over a period and with any furniture over extended periods may seep through. We would recommend to wipe up any spillages immediately. PU lacquer is a durable, industry contract standard finish, which will age well with normal use.

Daily / Weekly – dust the furniture surfaces with a clean soft cloth / microfibre. It is best to wipe in the direction of the wood grain. It is rare that your furniture will require more than this.

Monthly or longer / as required – wipe furniture surfaces with a very slightly damp soft cloth (water only). Follow up & dry off immediately with a clean, lint free cloth. If liquid is spilt onto your furniture or at the base of your veneered furniture, ensure to mop up all liquid as soon as possible.

Veneer general care: Although your Hotel furniture is durable & protected to contract standard with a lacquer finish, Veneer is a luxurious natural wood product and so should be treated with care. Try to avoid placing or dragging sharp objects across the surface of your veneered furniture; instead place onto the surface. Use a heat shield when placing high temperature objects onto the surface. Do not place your furniture next to a heat source or steam. We recommend using glass tops, desk pads/coasters to help protect the surface from scratches & dents. Glass tops are recommended to greatly extend the life of your surfaces. If using glass tops, please ensure non-slip rubber bobbles are in place to prevent glass sliding on the surface of the furniture. Replace immediately if rubber bobble is removed. When cleaning glass tops & mirrors be careful to not overrun onto the veneered finish with glass cleaning solution. We suggest applying your glass cleaner to the cloth first before in turn applying to the glass or mirror.

To fill scratches, touch up Crayons are available. Avoid wax based furniture polish cleaners such as Pledge® and Endust®. These products contain wax and silicone products that will build up on the surface. This build up will create a “cloudy” appearance over time on the finish of the unit. Avoid cleaning products that contain oils or are ammonia based.

Do NOT use any proprietary furniture polish, cleaner or wax as over time these build up a residue which overall has a detrimental effect and alters the appearance of the furniture.

Do NOT allow household solvents or spilled alcoholic drinks to come into contact with the furniture surface e.g. nail polish, perfume, aftershave, gin etc.

Do NOT allow hot or cold items to come into contact with furniture surface. Always use coasters and mats where appropriate. We recommend glass tops.

Do NOT use Scouring and abrasive agents (abrasive powders, scouring pads, steel wool).

Do NOT place furniture in direct sunlight or in a direct heat source (e.g. radiators, heating vents).

Do NOT put items with an abrasive finish directly onto furniture surfaces; Always use coasters and mats where appropriate.

As your new furniture settles and levels naturally, the doors may drop slightly. This is typical in older buildings with older flooring. Each hinge is adjustable to easily tweak & return the door to its original position. It is best to adjust when required to avoid doors catching and damaging the plinth below. Please ask if you require advice on this.
